LA Design Weekend

Fire Wood

On Friday, September 26th, Angel City Lumber and Stranger Furniture co-hosted a special exhibition, Fire Wood, at Angel City Lumber as part of the second annual LA Design Weekend.

The show features a collection of furniture and objects made by a select group of LA-based woodworkers and designers. Each piece is made primarily of wood sourced from Los Angeles County trees, honoring the city’s urban and forest landscapes.

Proceeds from the show will support My Tribe Rise, a grassroots organization based in Altadena that is supporting under-resourced Altadena residents impacted by the Eaton Fire.

The pieces are only available for purchase in-store. Contact us for more information.

Bowl of Fire

Artist: Terry Holzgreen

Found these charred balls on the local beach 30 years back or so. Wildfire burned Manzanita, got washed to the sea during big storms after the fires and washed back up on the beaches. I had some over 20 years before I cut it open and found this amazing wood inside.

The lighting element is made from welded steel, and covered in a hemp and wood blend paper. The lighting is designed to juxtapose the sinuous carving of the base.
