The Eames Foundation partnered with Angel City Lumber to repurpose declining Eucalyptus trees from the Eames House into limited edition products. This collaboration has resulted in unique pieces, including side tables, skateboards, and stools, honoring the legacy of Charles and Ray Eames while preserving a piece of design history.

The spirit and ethos of Charles and Ray Eames live on through the Eames Foundation and the Eames Office, as well as the stand of Eucalyptus trees, an old Abbot Kinney forestry initiative, on which the Eames House was built. Hoping there was a service that would be able to utilize the now-declining Eucalypts, which posed a hazard to the structural integrity of the Eames House, the Eames Foundation sought out Angel City Lumber in 2018.

As part of their “Conservation Management Plan,” we have interfaced with the Eames Foundation, Eames Office, as well as their decades-old manufacturing partners, Herman Miller and Vitra, in repurposing the intentional and incremental removed Eucalypts into limited edition Eames-designed products, some classic and some new. We have recovered these trees, milled, dried, and dressed the lumber yielded from them, and fabricated these limited edition products. Since 2018, we have engaged in three phases of Eames Projects: Eames Eucalyptus LTR Side Table, Eames x Globe Eucalyptus Skateboard, and Eames Eucalyptus Time Life Lounge Stools.

We are tremendously grateful for the opportunity to be entrusted with the legacy of two of the world’s most visionary designers and contributors to architecture, furniture design, industrial design, manufacturing, and photography. These partnerships between ACL, the Eames Foundation, the Eames Office, and the Eames House Eucalypts have truly been an honor.
